You don't need a growth mindset about everything

Hi Reader!

Let's bust a common misconception today.

Many people think you either have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset, but the truth is:

We usually have both.

You've probably noticed this yourself. In some areas, you may have a growth mindset and in other areas, your mindset may be more fixed.

The good news? You can change a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.

For example:

๐Ÿšซ I'm not good with money (fixed)
โ€‹โœ… I can learn to be good with money (growth)

So, you're not stuck with something even if you've had it all your life.

๐Ÿ’ก Personal Insight

Linda and I have been practicing yoga for about six years now. And the funny thing is, we're constantly learning new things.

My favorite yoga teacher is especially good at pushing me out of my comfort zone.

And one thing she keeps saying is:

"Don't listen to your brain".

That's because when you listen to your brain, it often tells you that you can't do something.

She always encourages me to just try it.

Maybe it's lifting a leg during a pose where I usually keep it down. Or raising an arm when I normally wouldn't.

And every time I push myself and try it, I'm amazed that I can actually do it.

That's really the essence of a growth mindset. To stop listening to the part of your brain that tells you you can't do something, and simply try anyway. ๐Ÿ’ช

One example of something I thought I never could do because it was really difficult at first is the Chakrasana pose.

But I insisted on doing it on every class. It took many tries before I could actually do it for more than just a few seconds.

It's a difficult pose because you're opening up your heart during the pose, which can feel a bit uncomfortable.

But for me, it was proof that we can do things we once thought were impossible if we keep practicing. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐ŸŒฟ We All Have Blind Spots

Sometimes we don't even realize we've accepted a limiting belief.

We tell ourselves:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "That's just the way I am."
โ€‹
๐Ÿ’ฌ "People like me don't do that."
โ€‹
๐Ÿ’ฌ "I've never been good at it."

The problem is that these stories really do shape our lives.

๐Ÿ’› Focus On What Matters Most

You don't have to change every limiting belief you have.

Just start with the one that would make the biggest difference.

โœ“ Maybe that's your health.
โœ“ Maybe it's your relationships.
โœ“ Maybe it's your career.
โœ“ Or maybe it's money.

If you believe you'll never understand money or never earn more than you do today, that belief can affect your choices for years without you even realizing it.

But what if the story isn't true?

What if you've simply never given yourself permission to learn?

โœจ A Small Shift Can Change Everything

Instead of saying:

๐Ÿšซ I'm just not good at this.

Try saying:

๐ŸŒฑ I can learn this.

You don't have to become an expert overnight.

You just have to leave room for the possibility that you can grow.

๐Ÿ’ญ One Thought To Leave You With

You don't need a growth mindset about everything.

But the areas where you choose to grow can change the direction of your life.

And sometimes, one new belief is all it takes to open a door that always seemed closed. ๐Ÿ’›

Now we'd love to hear from you...

Is there an area of your life where you'd like to develop more of a growth mindset?
